Amyris, Inc., an industrial bioscience company that’s best known in the personal care industry as a supplier of a plant-based squalane, has taken a step further down the supply chain by creating and selling its own skin care product—Biossance The Revitalizer—direct to consumers.

Biossance The Revitalizer is billed as a multi-purpose skin care product that is dermatologist-tested, paraben-free, noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic and suitable for all skin types. Made exclusively of Amyris's Neossance squalane, which is derived from sustainable sugarcane, the SKU is described as highly effective for dry skin patches and can be used on cuticles, as a makeup booster and as a hair serum for added shine.

According to research conducted by Amyris, 95% of women who have tried the product agreed that their skin felt instantly hydrated, and 95% agreed their skin appeared softer and smoother after just one week.

Consumers are already benefitting from Neossance Squalane; it’s been a go-to ingredient skin care category. In fact, the ingredient has been used in more than 400 personal care brands, according to Amyris.

“Biossance The Revitalizer uses the exact same ingredient found in many top-performing brands purchased by today’s smart consumers who accept no compromise when it comes to selecting personal care products,” noted Caroline Hadfield, senior vice president of personal care, Amyris.

“It was only natural that, one day, Amyris would bring this excellent ingredient directly to consumers by launching its own product,” she said.

According to Hadfield, “our target consumer is looking for a product that is good for their body, good for their lifestyle, and good for the environment.”

Recently, Biossance announced a partnership with the I Am That Girl (IATG) community, which supports, celebrates and inspires fulfillment of the highest potential in every girl, with the goal of joining together to help build confidence and self-worth among the young women of today who will be the leaders of tomorrow (See video below),

“Just as IATG supports them to be inspired by their own natural beauty, Biossance supports women in nurturing the beauty already found within. With this shared commitment of empowering girls and women in mind, we were delighted by the opportunity to partner with IATG,” Hadfield told Happi.

Earlier in the summer, Biossance joined forces with beauty, fitness and wellness experts Candice Kumai, Vicky Vlachonis and Nitika Chopra on The Embodied Project, an online 30-day challenge at Biossance.com.

According to John Melo, president and CEO, Amyris started down the path to launch with a private release of the product, which delivered strong sales and received very positive consumer feedback.

Biossance The Revitalizer, which comes in a 50ml bottle, is currently sold exclusively online at www.Biossance.com, but Amyris is planning to expand availability through several major retail distribution channels. The online price is currently $58.

“In fact, discussions are underway with exciting potential partners that are recognized ‘go-to’ sources for leading personal care products,” Hadfield said.

In addition, Amyris plans to add new SKUs that will be available in early 2016.
